Over the past few weeks, we have been hearing about a smartphone from OPPO called the OPPO Reno Ace 2. Initially thought to be a direct successor to the OPPO Reno Ace from 2019, the Ace 2 does not appear to be a part of OPPO’s Reno family anymore. The company, it seems, has decided to market this new phone as an entirely new series called the OPPO Ace series, and the handset in question is now called the OPPO Ace 2. As outlined in some of our previous articles, the OPPO Ace 2 is a flagship-grade smartphone with quite the potent hardware. We already knew bits and pieces about the specifications of the device, and today, we have some additional information to share.
While most of the previous information around the OPPO Ace 2 came from leaksters and Weibo posts, we have come across an official listing on China’s popular e-commerce platform JD.com where some new information around the phone has been posted. We now know that the OPPO Ace 2 will be offered to consumers in two color options — Moon Rock Ash and Fantasy Purple. We also know that the device will be sold in three storage variants – a base 8GB+128GB variant, a mid-tier 8GB+256GB variant, and a top-end 12GB+256GB variant. The listing also has clear renders of the phone.
Other previously leaked specifications of the OPPO Ace 2 indicate that the phone will feature a 6.5-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution. This panel also gets a punch-hole style cutout for the front-facing camera. The Reno Ace 2 boasts of a quad-camera setup at the rear — the details of which we do not know yet. We also know that the device will support 5G and that it comes powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset.
Previous leaks indicate that the Ace 2 will sport twin 1955 mAh batteries to offer nearly 4,000 mAh battery capacity. This looks a tad on the lower side for a device with a display this large, and there is a chance that this figure may change when we have the official spec sheet with us. The phone is also likely to support 65W fast charging. In line with our expectations, the OPPO Ace 2 will run ColorOS 7, which is based on Android 10. With the launch of the phone just days away, we would not need to wait too long for the rest of the specifications to be revealed.
