Even though it won’t be until September 2020 that Apple will announce its next-generation iPhone models, speculation surrounding the upcoming models generate a lot of interest. It is also quite common for tech blogs and websites to report about potential leaks in connection with the iPhone. While we are certain that Apple will launch the iPhone 12 series later this year (unless the global COVID-19 pandemic affects this timeline), until now, we had little information surrounding the various models scheduled to launch this year. However, thanks to a recent tweet by Jon Prosser, we might have just come across the first credible report surrounding the next-gen iPhones.
In his tweet, Jon posted some of the potential specifications of the next-generation iPhone models along with their prospective naming scheme. The key takeaway from the tweet is that Apple could launch four new iPhone 12 models made available to the consumer in different sizes. He also revealed that Apple is about to start prototyping the iPhone 12 range.
The smallest iPhone, per Jon, could feature a 5.4-inch display while the top end Pro-Max variant is likely to get a 6.7-inch panel. The entry-level 2020 iPhone is likely to be called the iPhone 12 and features a 5.4-inch panel. This is likely to be followed by another iPhone 12 model with a larger (6.1-inch) display (possibly iPhone 12 Plus). There is reportedly another variant that will get a 6.1-inch display — called the iPhone 12 Pro. Finally, we also have the iPhone 12 Pro Max which gets the massive 6.7-inch panel and top-end hardware. Both the Pro and Pro Max models will also reportedly feature a stainless steel body as opposed to the aluminum body on the cheaper models. Jon does, however, add that these names are yet to be finalized.
To summarize, these are the four new potential iPhone 12 models that could see officialdom later this year.
