“Hyundai Motor India is a responsible and caring brand. The safety, health and hygiene of its employees, customers, business partners and the communities are of utmost priority in every situation”, the company said in a statement.
Hyundai Motor India, the country's second-largest carmaker, has stopped manufacturing operations at its Chennai facility starting Monday, March 23. This lockdown will continue till an unspecified date. Operations will resume once the Korean carmaker receives further notifications from the state government on this issue.
The Korean carmaker has also announced a few other steps to assist its stakeholders in the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak. The firm is providing 24/7 roadside assistance to customers in case of any emergency. Hyundai India will also offer extended support for two months to customers who are not able to avail its vehicle warranty, extended warranty or free service programmes due to a health emergency or dealer shutdowns in affected areas. Further, Hyundai will mobilize 1,000 doorstep advantage bikes and emergency road service vehicles to provide assistance to customers.
With the coronavirus pandemic reaching a critical stage in the country, and stringent restrictions being put in place for its containment, Hyundai joins a long list of manufacturers who have halted operations. Others include Maruti Suzuki, Hero Motocorp, FCA, Honda Cars India, Suzuki Motorcycle India and so on.
